Vietnam advice for visas and flights between Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia
Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 05:27 AM UTC
I will be flying from Bangkok to Hanoi, then from either Hanoi or preferably a coastal Vietnam town to Siem Reap, then from Siem Reap back to Bangkok. I've tried to research visas for these countries on here, but it's all confusing with multi-entries, etc. So can anyone lay this out for me? I fly into Thailand from the States (June 18), then into Vietnam once, from there on to Cambodia, then back once more to Bangkok (July 20). Two entries into Thailand, over a month apart. What visa do I need for Thailand? And Cambodia? Think I've got Vietnam figured out...also, I've been recommended to buy my flights around Vietnam and from Viet. to Siem Reap in advance, but Vietnam Airlines doesn't seem to offer tickets on line, and you must provide your passport to them before a ticket will be issued. When I fly into Hanoi, I will hope to fly to the Hue/Hoi An area within a few days. And I imagine the prices will be higher if I purchase my ticket so close to the departure date. Does anyone have any insight into this, or how I can secure tickets in and around vietnam in advance?

Re Visas, Thailand is issued on entry, even if you fly in twice on the same month (do this a lot), same goes for Cambodia. Vietnam you will need a visa before you come, you can do this thru VN embassy or visa-on-arrival thru a VN travel agent. VN air doesn't yet do e tickets, they say they are coming soon, but Pacific (now jetstar) does, but a few teething problems still.

Assuming that you have a US passport, you dont need a visa to enter THailand, as long as you leave the country within 30 days. You can check with Air Asia for cheap flights. I'll leave other countries for others to answer.
