musaphir would like to know the options for transfer from surabaya airport to malang as malang has been indicated to be a better place to stay.

there will be a baby travelling with two elderly adults.

would train or bus transfer be possible and what are the schedules and costs for these modes of transfer.

Musaphir, i suggest you take a taxi from Surabaya to Malang. It will cost you around 30USD per taxi but worth it. Taking bus will be tiring for elderly and babies especially on weekend.

There are heavy traffic and sometime it jammed at Sidoarjo (because of the Mud Crisis at Lapindo)I took nearly 4 hours to get there (without jam, it takes only 2 hours)on weekend.

The PJKA website (http://www.infoka.kereta-api.com/) lists one train from Surabaya to Malang, the Malang Ekspres. However, it leaves at 10.00 from Surabaya Gubeng station, which is too early for you, as I suppose you will be flying in from Kuala Lumpur. Also Surabaya Gubeng Station is not exactly close to Surabaya airport.
No doubt there are numerous buses going to Malang, but again you would have to transfer from the airport to the bus station first, by taxi or a DAMRI bus.
So in conclusion the best advice is that given by Harish_Mikael: get a taxi at the airport, cheap (fixed price) and comfy.
