Boring Sunday - Sharing Wierd Weather Experiences
Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 04:44 AM UTC
Any wierd (strange) weather experiences to share?

Let me start. We were in Boston in mid winter and it was unusual high temperature in the seventies with blue clear skies and you can go around in T-shirt. Then we heard of changing weather and decided to hurry back to Connecticut. Along the drive back, it started to rain but by the time we reached Southern Connecticut, it was snowing and everything was beautifully white :)

Lots and lots.

Last Christmas Mum and I travelled to Cuba. I was looking forward to the sort of hot sunny weather that we don't generally see in Ireland mid-winter.

Well, Cuba had its coldestWinter on record. We shivered in temperatures of 6 degrees and less. We had brought only Summer clothes with us. Storms lashed the coastlines and we spent our days walking the beach searching for shells.

I remember a Summer trip to Bulgaria a few years back and visiting Sofia on a warm and sunny day. I recall sitting outside in a park watching a football world cup game on a small TV that one of the locals had set up at an outside bar. Then on the way back to Borovec where I was staying we drove through a massive hail storm. It was so bad the driver had to pull over and we sat there for 10 minutes listening to what sounded like a 100 people throwing golf balls at the van. When we got back we could see hundreds of little dents in the van where these hailstones had hit. It was by then sunny again and the damp streets were steaming under the hot sun.

In Dubai we wenyt for a 4wd drive over the Hajar mountain range. The heavens opened and washed the roads away. They claimed they had never seen rain like it before. Our bother was that we wanted to go to the bathroom and there wasn't anyplace to go!!! Looking back it's funny.

A cautionary tale about having “one for the road” I guess ;)

It was really funny Clive because it was hot and raining so when they pulled off the road, expecting the rain to clear in minutes, they filled us up with cold drinks and sandwiches to keep us occupied. We ended up using a fly infested hole in the floor type loo in a petrol station in one of the smaller Emirates.

I don't want to talk about the weather.

It's hot back home (Holland) and I'm at Halifax with 3 degrees Celcius outside and a big storm passing by (What a weekend!). Well, it can be worse, I have survived hurrican Juan here in the past.

Is this a sign that I should leave, haha?

I was fishing in a river with cliffs on either side when it started hailing so bad I beached my boat. Just when I did it was like being in a whirlwind. It even sucked the boat backwards into the river 50ft before I could beach it again. The whole thing lasted about two minutes. I found out later a tornado had touched down on one side of the river and I guess it lost it's punch going over the river canyon.

San Francisco in the summer. Strange (and sometimes a shock) to first-time visitors, a minor inconvenience for everyone else.

We sat out in the garden till after 9pm tonight - and it was warm enough for t-shirts. Unusual for us this time of year, but I'm not complaining.

Well, it's snowing in Tromsø. Quite a lot, actually (probably around 10-15 of fresh snow). And that certainly isn't *normal* in mid May. Not weird, perhaps, but definitely annoying! I want spring, now! :-P

Here's a webcam showing the wonderful weather in Tromsø at the moment:
