Hi,

I'm not too knowledgeable about scanners, but with an impending house move about to take place I figure now is definitely the time to get my old prints scanned and properly backed up.

I have 2 scanners, one of which I was recently given, and just wondered which one might be the better option quality-wise.

I have my old, slimline Canon Canoscan N676U or a recently acquired HP Scanjet 5300C.

Any thoughts on those two?

They've probably got the same gubbins inside anyway. I got good service from my Canoscan in UK, and here in China I have a Canon MP150 which is functionally the same as the Scanjet I imagine.

The deciding factor has to be ease of use, which ultimately is the software that comes with it. I could probably get more out of mine if the handbook was in something other than Chinese!

If you have a lot of prints, you could run them in parallel, because scanning takes an age. The most important thing is clean glass (and prints)!

Thanks - I've decided to make a start and get going with the Canon. I like Canon and I'm more familiar with this scanner. Also an IT friend has connected remotely to help me automate the settings - I have several hundred prints to get done.

I've got a Canon at home, and HP at work. The Canon is much easier to use and gives better results - but it is almost new, and the office one is three or four years old.
