Geneva Day trips from Geneva

I will be spending a week in Geneva at the end of June. What is the best way to get to Chillon?

Any other day trips I should take?

Chillon is easily reached by catching a train to Montreux and then walking around the lake to the castle. Its a lovely, easy walk.

Other very enjoyable day trips from Geneva are:

1. Catch a ferry to Yvoire - a small , beautiful mediaeval town on the French side of the lake
2. Catch a bus to Chamonix-Mt Blanc. The town itself is delightful but catching the cable car to the top of the Aguille du Midi to see Mt Blanc is spectacular as is the train ride to Montenvers and the Mer du Glace glacier. I actually took an organised tour for this day but it is quite easily doable by yourself. If you take a tour you get to avoid some of the queueing for the cable car.
3. A catch a bus to Annecy - the lake is magnificent and the town also lovely.

All the trips are easy to do in a day and I enjoyed all of them immensely.

If you are scientifically minded a vist to CERN is also worthwhile.
If you like books a visit to the Bodmer Library is worth it.

Hi
Some food suggestions already, especially Chamonix. Some other destination to consider:

1) Bern and old city with lots to see including the famous bear pit (Bern is named after the bear)
2) Murten - Medieval town with towers and castles on a small lake.
3) Gstaad - Famous ski resort town worth a look (also Gruyeres nearby)
4) Evian - Spa town

I recommend you visit the tourist office in Geneva and they will help in suggesting tour, bookings and directions.

Hope this helps
John

If you like castle and chocolates, visit Gruyere and and a chocolate factory:
