| Bangkok | Bangkok Layover Posted: Sat May 10, 2008 10:22 PM UTC
I have an 8 hour layover between flights, would this give me enough time to get into Bangkok and have a look around, Is there anything to do and see out near the airport ? I am arriving at 0830 to make connecting Int flight at 1800.
What is the quickest way into Bangkok and return from the new airport Thanks in Advance Marco |

From your 8 hrs., you'd have to deduct an hour for the plane to park, disembark and clear immigration and another 2 hrs. travel time to/from the city which leaves you about 5 hrs. That's about enough time to tour the Grand Palace and have lunch nearby if you go there directly from the airport by taxi. Not much to see near the airport.

I agree with the other reply you should have enough time to visit the Grand Palace. It maybe that you will have to pay the Thai airport departure tax when you get back to the airport, this is 700THB payable in cash. I maybe wrong on this, but as I understand it if your connection would be done without clearing Thai Immigration, but youdecide to do so then you have to pay the 700THB. However if your connection means that you have to clear immigration then the 700THB is included in your ticket price.

If you don't want to get into the city, I'd highly recommend you to visit "Prasart Musuem", it houses a vast collection of artifacts from the prehistoric to Bangkok periods. The imitation of some beautiful Thai architecture is scattered within the museum complex.
This museum is just only about 15 minutes from Suwannaphumi airport. It opens everyday except Mondays from 10.30 a.m.-3.00 p.m. Admission fee is 500 Baht each. Address : 9 Soi 4A, Kurngthep Kritha Rd., Bangkapi District Bang Kapi, Bangkok
