Alexandria is not a diving zone, if you would like to really enjoy a magnificent diving you should pick Hurgada or Sharm El Shiekh .

Of course you can dive there! The visibility is not the best and you don't see many fish but you do get to see remains of buildings and sphynx under water.

I was just reading up on diving in Alexandria myself. Apparently they call it "A dive into history". There are some cities (called Cleopatra I think) and old (headless) ramses down there but I understand the visibility is really poor (2m) and a lot of the artifacts are actually broken and tampered.
