Earlier today I was in line at a retail store and a 20 something Russian guy was being trained by a co worker. He was asking questions about how much take hime pay he would get on his payroll check.
Russian: What percent of my check do I take home? Co-worker: Depends if your single, married, or have kids. Around 75-80%. R: ouch! Co-worker: Then they take out some more for health insurance. R: Serious?? How do you live on whats left?? Co-worker #2: Its the land of opportunity. You'll do fine. Everybody: <Laughing> As I was leaving, he said this was his first job in America. If I were to get a job in your country, How would this conversation have gone? |

In the former Soviet Union, the general thought was:
You can pretend to work, and we'll pretend to pay you. |

In Australia it is easy:
A third for tax (Including Social & Health) A third for rent or Housing repayments. A third for living. Works out to a very comfortable existence for most. In Malta it is difficult: 15% for Income Tax. 10% Social and Health. Half for food and Petrol. The rest on housing. Making hard living for the average. |

In the United Arab Emirates:
Well, you will pay around 65% of your salary on rent... that's until your landlord decides to increase the rent by about 30% and forces you to leave and look for another place. You'll probably end-up sharing an old, run-down house with another 8 strangers to save on cost. About 25% of your salary goes on food, transport, etc. The remaining 10% you'll need for passport pictures and numerous new forms, fees and regulations for the ever-changing immigration laws and labour laws. |
