Antigua Guatemala Travel Forum

After staying in Antigua for three nights, we are traveling to Santiago Atilan for a couple days. I was wondering f anyone knew any good restaurants or activities to do around that area. Thank you, you responses are apreciated.

Lake Atitlan is a great choice to spend a couple of days after visiting Antigua Guatemala. I did pretty much the same itinerary, staying in Panajachel instead of Santiago Atitlan.

Have a lake tour and visit the other villages around the lake. That will take at least one full-day. Panajachel is worth a visit as well as San Pedro Laguna, and the smallest villages of San Antonio Palopo and Santa Caterina Palopo. Anyway, wherever you go don't expect too much in term of sights and attractions, it's just about enjoying the natural beauty of the lake and exploring the local culture and way of life and the people.

The restaurants scene at Lake Atitlan is limited and quite plain and it's unlikely you will be impressed by any of the choices available in Santiago Atitlan as well as in any other villages around the lake. My recommendation is just step into the ones that appeal you the most.

One place where I really enjoyed the food was the restaurant at the Hotel Atitlan in Pana. Well it's really just outside Pana. A lot of tourists who want comfy digs stay here...it's pretty posh. And the restaurant is a bit pricey as well. I thought the food at El Pescador in Santiago Atitlan was good as well. Their good with seafood, as the name of the restaurant might suggest.

I love the Hotel Atitlan! The pool with the lake just beyond is a beautiful sight. I have a photo of it on my Pana page. Eating on the terrace looking at that view is a delight.
