Hi everybody,
I'm thinking about Trapani and I need some suggestions: 1) do you know about a good accomodations in the city centre? 2) are there nice beaches in the city centre or close? 3) do you know aboout trips to beautiful places in the area with public transportation Can you give me some advice about them? Thank you, Sergio |

The main beach of Trapani is known as Erice Mare, where, incidentally is a great 4 star hotel - Hotel Baia dei Mulini. Prices are very good.
Bus services in Sicily are a bit hit and miss, so you're probably better off using trains. You can get to Castellammare del Golfo for 4.5 Euros - journey time 50 minutes Then there is Marsala(home of the famous wine) Cost 3.10 Euros ... Journey time 30 minutes. You could also visit Segesta from Trapani by train - cost 3.10 Euros....Journey time 30 minutes. Also/ you can visit the Egadi Islands from Trapani using the ferry services. Erice is a must but there is no public transport to this hill top town. You may find the hotel operates day trips there, and if they don't, they will know somebody who does. Hope this info is of some use

There is actually a newish cable car that ascends the hill from Trapani to Erice. This makes it very simple to access this beautiful medieval hilltop village, and also offers excellent views of Trapani and the seacoast as you go up/down. I don't recall the cost, but it was modest. Erice is fine for strolling, and no need for a car in the village.

I know this is not my thread, but that's a useful bit of info.
I didn't know they had put a cable car in. That'll save a long drive next time we're in that neck of the woods.

Yes, the cable car is very useful, Dom. It saves on that tortuous (to me) drive up the hill. Each "car" seats about 4-6 people, and it's very comfortable and quiet. I think it's been open about 2 years now, as it had just opened on the week of my last visit.

All the places posted in reply to your first enquiry are easy to get to from Trapani and all of them are worth visiting.
