Hi!

Would like to check if it's better to stay near Patong beach or Karon/Kata beach?

Also, how can we get from one to the other and how much would that roughly cost?

That depends on how much you want going on around you. I love Patong, some hate it because it is too busy. Kata is the quietest of the three. From Kata via Karon to Patong can take 20-25 minutes in a tuk-tuk and will cost about 400 (or more) THB each way (DON'T start me on the rip prices charged by Phuket tuk-tuk drivers!!).

If you want a quiet beach and a quiet place to stay then Karon. If busy and noisy are what you're looking for then Patong. I prefered Karon and it cost me 300thb each way last night (Karon - Patong) although they initially want 400.

Depending on which hotel you stay in either Patong,Kata or Karon...Some hotels do provide a free shuttle to and from....We stayed @ the Horizon Resort/Karon Beach and they provided a free shuttle to and from Patong 4 times a day..I think it was 4 times...??..Karon is a lot quieter than Patong.We found ourselves catching the shuttle sometimes twice a day to Patong as there is much more to do and see in Patong...So,check with your hotel and see if they have a free shuttle...only 9 days to go...!!..but who's counting..???

I stayed in Patong and i say it is very accesible to many things. food, beach, party, shopping(alhtough expensive), groceries, pharmacy. I've not been to the other beaches though. You can rent a bike or a jeep to get around. Renting is so much cheaper than the tuk-tuks or taxis. Have a great holiday! I enjoyed mine thoroughly.
