My sympathies.
Have you tried searching through/deleting your cookies? There might be a question-market one still lurking on your computer.... |

No, I've deleted every cookie I've found manually, plus ran three anti-Spyware programs, but the pop-under keeps showing up. But my Spyware-guard program lights up like a Christmas tree every time I log on to VT.
The only thing I can recommend: as the Spyware (and yes, it IS Spyware) manifests itself, it causes your notices panel to maximize. So whenever you see this happen, look immediately to the bottom bar on your browser. If you see something unexpected there -- right-click and close immediately. And a special message to the fine individuals at QuestionMarket.com: May the Bird of Paradise fertilize your coffee cup. |

I've reently upgraded to a new computer and notice that I get a pop up (pop ups blocked) that is advertising some play poker site - seems to only happen when I'm on vt - also very annoying

VirtualTourist is NOT advertising any poker sites. What happens is that your computer gets a cookie set on it when you visited some other site. Then when you visit another site, determined by that weird cookie, it will pop up the ad. It has NOTHING whatsoever to do with VT.
The dynamic logic can't really be called 'spyware', unless you call every single piece of advertising spyware. Pretty much any ad sets a cookie so that it can tell if you have already seen an ad, so that you don't keep seeing the same add over and over and over. There is also a 'frequency cap' so that for example if you get a 'pop up' once, it will not be served to you again. |

But I totally agree with you TravelFrosch that questionmarket deserves to have the bird of paradise treatment, so the bungling of this.

No worries, G... I understand VT is the victim, not the perpetrator.
Call it "Adware" instead of "Spyware" if you wish, but QuestionMarket walks the fine line between advertising and invasion of privacy. I've read their stuff pores through your browser cache and transmits it back to the "Mother Ship." Then, pop-up/pop-under ads are sent to you as you browse, based on an analysis of your browsing habits (e.g., online poker). More importantly, their ads are so clunky they can slow down or even lock up your computer. I think I finally got the bugger with one of my Spyware/Adware detectors. Be sure you scan every folder on your hard drive, not just the system folders. These guys are sneaky with their cookie placement. |

Well, Sara's been surfing Charlie Brown websites for the past hour, so this should make for some funny pop-ups at least...

We'll take care of this....but this dynamic logic does not put anything on your machine and then serve you ads later. I will triple check, but that's not how it works...

They're still coming. The latest pop-under is offering me a camera if I answer an online survey.
