| Rome | Fiumicino Airport to Roma termini Posted: Sat May 10, 2008 12:15 PM UTC
My husband and I are aware that there is a Leonardo Express Train, however we
are wondering where is it exactly located in the Airport. Any info will be greatly appreciated. |

And you really, really can't miss it as trains are signed from arrivals.......just follow the crowd.
You buy your ticket from a man/woman in a little booth just by the platform. Local trains, by the way, are cheaper and don't take much longer. I used the Leonardo Express last time, but I won't bother again for exactly that reason.

I'm not sure 100%, but I'd bet that local trains stop at Termini; for info, check www.trenitalia.it (the italian railway network)

And regarding Leonardo Express, just follow the signs; 11 € in Feb '07, although I think it's more expensive now. If you are, let's say, 4 people, consider the possibility of taking a taxi, you fix the price at the airport, and it'll take you straight to your hotel, if not, at Termini, maybe you need to tak a local bus or metro depending where your accommodation is. For the airport, check http://www.adr.it/content.asp?L=1&idmen=199

Yes, the local trains stop at Termini too.
Check: http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html (in English) for times and fares (click 'buy' to see them) both from Fiumicino and to elsewhere.

Are you positive that the "local" train stops at Termini? Trenitalia still shows that the FR1 (FM1) (i.e., the train that is NOT the Leonardo Express) still bypasses Termini, hitting Trastevere, Ostiense, Tuscolana, and Tiburtina before going out the east side of town. It is a little slower (45 minutes to Tiburtina, which is a little farther than Termini) and cheaper (5.50 euro to Tiburtina, compared to 11 euro for Termini on the Leonardo Express).
The difference in fare is due to the fact that Trenitalia is pricing the Leonardo Express as 1st class, whereas the FR1 is 2nd class only. Technically, these are both regional (i.e., "local") trains. As for Colleferro (if I remembered the name of the town correctly), you will still want to go through Termini for the connection to Colleferro. The connections are once or twice an hour, for a total trip of 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes. Note that if you are going straight to Colleferro from the airport, that you should be able to buy tickets for both trains (airport to Termini and Termini to Colleferro) at the airport. P.S. At the airport, as someone noted, I am sure there are plenty of signs; however, if you ask and are afraid that no one will understand your 'Italian', note that the Italians use "Leonardo Express" as the name in Italian, too. Tell them "Leonardo Express" and they'll point you in the right direction. Bill

No, you are right Bill. Tiburtina it is. Which might be ok, depending on where you want to end up in Rome.
And I have duly slapped myself for not checking properly.
