| Luang Prabang | Things to do in and arond Luang Prabang Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 11:54 PM UTC
My wife and I are spending 4 days in Luang Prabang in mid July. We would appreciate any advice on the "must see" sites in and around the town and any suggestions on day trips from there.
Thanks |

I recommend that you take a boat trip on the Mekong for a couple of hours, the scenery is lovely and much of it untouched by roads, power lines etc. Luang Prabang is also just a nice place to meander around either on foot or bike which you can hire very cheaply, visiting temples or watching life on the river.

A couple of good day trips check out my LP pages for the name of the travel agent we used.It is located in the main street and does the same tours as the rest. A boat trip is a nice way to spend the day, down to the caves, local villages for wine tasting. There is also a nice waterfall were you can swim. I would also suggest you hire a bike for the day and ride around. LP is a lovely place to relax and unwind.

I spent 2.5 days in Luang Prabang. I like the atmosphere and the setup of the streets. Pakou didn't impress me, but since u have 4 days there, u have to visit there. Kuangsi is a great place to spend 1 afternoon there. I had only 1.5 hrs there and definitely it wasn't enuf. Watch a show at the theatre in the national museum and visit a few Wat. like wat phousi and wat xiengthong. Enjoy a day at spa too.

Hi
I think if you look around the forum you can find all the "must-see' sights in LP, such as the Kuangsi Waterfalls, the Pak Ou Caves, etc. I was there in Feb this year and i'd gone out of town to an elephant camp with Tiger Trail for 2 days. It was an amazing experience living with the elephants and learning about them. If you have time, you should check it out : http://www.elephant-park-project.org/page.asp?id={ You should also take a walk across the rickety bridge to the paper-making village. Basically, I found LP a nice place to just wander around. Try the fresh fruit shakes (they're available everywhere), grilled sticky rice on skewers and grilled fish in the night market.
