Hi--
Can you give me some suggestions for choosing a hotel in central Paris
I've never been, and would like a hotel no more than $100 per night....

Is that possible in central Paris?
Thanks in advance for your help

You'll get a lot of options.

For central location I like Hotel St-Pierre on rue de la Médecine. Rooms are smallish but location is great and at about 80 euros a night, it is a good deal.

There is also Hotel des Mines slightly higher up (one RER stop) by Jardins du Luxembourg for about 85 euros

You could try wotif.com up to 28 days before you leave and see what's available at that price. Paris is very expensive and $US100 a night won't buy that much. Its even worse for us Australians.

I can recommend two hotels very central located (near Louvre). However, the price is ~ 100 E/ double room:

Prince Albert

Montpensier

$100 = €65 (is that for a single or double?). It is possible to find sthg at around the €65 mark (if you're not too fussed about quality/space), there are a few 1 or 2 star hotels at those prices in central Paris (let's say 1st to 6th arrondissement) but first have you looked at previous pages? I'm saying that because this is an old chestnut, and there will be tons of info in the system, I could give you one or 2 names but you should really have a look first (go back 10 pages). You'll find plenty of names and website addresses that would answer your question. If you can go up to €80/night, Hotel de la Sorbonne is an excellent option.
