| Bangkok | river kwai and tiger temple Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 07:55 PM UTC
has anyone been on this tour? if you have could you please reccommend a tour company to book with, also what are the living conditions like at the tiger temple? are the tigers treated in any cruel way at all? i have seen on a few websites thats its monks that run it so was thinking that because of this there would be no harm done to the tigers, or am i just being nieve. any info would be much appreciated. thanks

Hi, I haven't done this tour but I did backpack around Thailand for 3 weeks last summer and in my experience you can plan all you like at home but things will change when you get there. Also it's better to speak to people there at the time to see who they recommend as things can change. We spoke to other travellers n got recommendations for tours that way n never had a bad experience.

Greetings from adelaide, australia!
Depending on your budget, there are quite a few tour companies that go to river kwai/tiger temple. I can recommend Hellfire pass Tours. I went on a full day Private Tour from bangkok. It cost me around $220 aussie dollars...but i was the only one, had my own driver/guide with a well maintained (looked new) top of the range car, picked up from hotel, taken to floating markets, then on to kanchanaburai (river kwai), allied war cemetry, lunch included (near kanchanaburai), tiger temple and then to hellfire pass - picked up around 7.15am and didn't get back to around 6.30pm. As its a private tour, you could take as long as i wanted in each place (a huge advantage, so you don't have to wait for others or be hurried on). Check out their website. Hellfire pass was very emotional. Tiger temple was unbelievable - truly an experience you must do (you get to cuddle the tiger) - its run by the buddhist monks, tigers are wel taken care of. Hope this story helps!!
