I'll be in southern China in September and after my stay I want to travel to Korea. Does anyone know the cheapest way to get there from Cheng Du?

North or South?

North: there is a train Chengdu to Shenyang (in Liaoning) but that takes 40 hours. Then I guess you can take another train or bus into DPRK

South: there is a train Chengdu to Qingdao (in Shandong) but that also takes 39 hours. Then there would be either a flight or maybe a ferry to ROK.

The undiscounted fare for the flight Chengdu to Qingdao is about US$300. But discounts are frequently available, 40% or more. The hard-sleeper price is US$66. It's nearly 2700KM.

There're ferries from Weihai, Qingdao, Tianjin, Dandong, Dalian and Yantai to Incheon, and also Yantai to Busan: http://www.seoulsearching.com/transportation/boat/
Only Tianjin and Qingdao have direct train links to Chengdu.
Chengdu -- Tianjin: K386/K387 (1812--0153) 31h41min
Chengdu -- Sifang (Qingdao): K206/K207 (1835--1034) 39h59min
Hard seat would be the cheapest, but it wouldn't be comfortable!

I'll be going to South Korea. I'd love to see the North, but just don't have enough time.

How would I find a discounted flight? I did a few quick searches on sidestep.com, haven't had the chance to thoroughly research flights.
