Estonia Tallinn to St. Petersburg

Hi,

My friend and I are going to be in Tallin and wanted to go to St. Petersburg. Does anyone know the best way to get to St. Petersburg from Tallin? Flying seems quite expensive. Thanks!

Hi, Sara!

Take the Eurolines bus, departing from Tallinn at 6 am and arriving 13.00. They have a new comfortable Scania Irizar PB bus running between Tallinn and St Petersburg. There are several other departures during the day, you can also take a night bus for both ways. Check the schedules and prices on

I went by boat. It was cheap and comfortable. I remember I was in Saint Petersbourg and spend only one day in Tallin: so I took the boat early in the morning and go back to SP by night. Must be the same the other way ...
Good luck! Saint Pete is one of my favourite places!

I'd take the train, it's comfortable and efficiant. www.gorail.ee. The road from Narva to St P is really bumpy by bus and the border wait on a bus is annoying.

Mind that there's no ship connection between Tallinn and St Petersburg at the moment. As Tartu mentioned, train is an option, too. There's only one departure a day, an overnight train. Bear in mind, though, that trains are by no means comfortable in Estonia.

Actually the new 'Gorail' trains are pretty fancy, but it does depend on whether you want to travel overnight or not. There is no ship to St. P.

And don't forget that you need a visa in your passport to cross Russian border.
