Dubai Is religious material allowed in Dubai?
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 10:13 AM UTC
Hi all, I am a new member travelling to Dubai for several years for a work project, and while I am not a religious person I am trying to learn and I'm wondering if it's allowable to bring in things like bibles and other learning materials or is it not advisable?

I don't know for sure about the import regulations for bibles, but there are Christian churches here so I would guess that it's OK. Maybe one of the others will know for sure.

Hi there,
Dubai is a very tolerant place for all the belives and religions, having bible on you while passing through airport should not cause any problem!!
Good luck.

Is it not the case though that one is not allowed to read outloud the scriptures in public?
I know this is true in some countries, but I am not sure about the UAE.
I'm not saying that the he will stand in a park shouting out passages, but some people like to read outloud to themselves.

You are 100% allowed to bring Bible along with u. But if u r bringing for a distribution purpose(many copies) then I think it will be little tuff. UAE government is very helpfull. The Emigration dept will guide you how to take that material in. May be you will have to fill some kind of form.

WOW, thanks for the responses folks, I believe that the question has been answered. Relax all, it's an agreement that I have with my wife that I will try to learn, with an open mind, about her beliefs. The only problem is the timing, work in my field here in the US is as bad as it has been in twenty years s I am going abroad and just want to make sure I won't get thrown in jail. Everything I've read about Dubai is liberal enough but I needed to make sure. I hope to meet some of you in the coming years.

Thanks, Mike.
