Yogyakarta Train Stations in Solo and Yogya
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 09:50 AM UTC
Hello everyone,
I will fly to Solo on 29th May. From there, will proceed str8 to Yogya as I booked a hotel there. I just need to know, what is the train station nearest to the Solo Airport and Malioboro St. How far are they from the two places? I will reach Solo on Thursday at about 9 a.m. So, are there many trains available to Yogya? How about the crowd at that time?
Thanking all responses in advance.

Hi, the closest trainstation to Malioborostreet in Yogyakarta is Stasiun Tugu. Stasiun Tugu is at Jalan Pasar Kembang, in the North of Yogyakarta. I don't know how far it is to your location at the Malioborostreet, because this street is long. Jalan Malioboro starts in the North at Jalan Pasar Kembang, and goes to the South, it ends halfway to the Keraton (Palace of the Sultan).
There are a lot of becaks waiting in Malioborostreet, and in the Jalan Pasar Kembang, which you can take.
I haven't been in Solo (yet), but I saw on internet the station is called: "Balapan": http://www.asiarooms.com/travel-guide/indonesia/solo/sightseeing-in-solo/stasiun-balapan-solo.html
Here you can find a map from Yogyakarta: http://www.indonesia-tourism.com/yogyakarta/map/index.html
In Indonesian language train is called: "kereta api".
Good luck.
Selma.

There are numerous trains from Solo to Yogya. The trains' website: http://www.infoka.kereta-api.com/ lists 11 business and executive class trains between Solo Balapan and Yogyakarta. This does not include economy class trains, the only ones that perhaps stop at Yogyakarta Tugu. As you arrive at 9.00 you might catch the 11.15 Sancaka or the 11.35 Argowilis.
However, Solo Balapan is not close to the airport, the distance is more than 5 km, you will have to take a taxi.
If you just want to get to Yogya quickly and easily, better take a taxi. You get them at the airport for a fixed price (should be about Rp 200,00), and it will bring you to your hotel door in about an hour.

Hi, Solo train station and the airport are not really close. From solo to Yogya it take +/- 2 hours with car. With Train, as you arrive in Yogya train station, better you take becak to the Malioboro street ,if your hotel located in Malioboro street, it safe more time and money. If you take taxi to go to Malioboro, it will go all around first, it cost you about Rp 60.000,- last time. By Becak (Traditional transportation, you can call it pedicap too, 3 wheels, like bicycle) maybe about Rp 5.000,- - Rp 10.000,- You MUST bargain it, coz from your look its obviously you are Tourist!!! Everything must bargain Until half price!! Trust me!!

Hello,

Just want to share my experiences. I used to travel from Solo Arrport to Jogja. As more than once I fly to Kl than to Solo with airasia. After arriving at the airport I took a ride with taxi and paid 50.000 rps. Than I took Pramex (prambanan express). Its so cheap as just 7.000 rps. Its a kind of commuter train between jogja and solo. SO economical and it goes every 2 hour.
Check this out, you will find the schedule and even the picture of the train. http://www.friendster.com/photos/13490700/253223835/61037
If you want to travel around the city just take TRANSJOGJA. its air conditioned, and so concevnience bus. Similiar to BRT. with 3000 rps you can go to Prambanan temple. Shopping area. And stop at Jombor bus station to change bus to Borobudur. At malioboro street there are 2 shelters. Check this out to see the line. www.transjogja.net

About jogja, check this out
http://www.jogja.com/tourism/
http://www.jogjatourism.com/
Or even for more city www.my-indonesia.info.

If you want to stay, I recommend you to stay at the Tourist street named Prawirotaman Street. As its safe, and more quite. The hotel mostly accomodated with swimming pool and airconditioned. But along Malioboro street is also nice.

Have a nice trip
