Not as centric as other hotels the other VT'ers might suggest, but I paid 37£ for a double room (including breakfast, taxes, etc. and private facilities) at Westpoint Hotel. Info and review on my London page. This hotel is close to Paddington station.

I forgot to say that the 37£ was per person per night, and that was in late July.

There are hotels within that budget but not necessarily central or ensuite. however, there is one I usually recommend as being reasonable, central and with ensuite bathrooms, and that's the Tavistock Hotel in Russell Square. The room is charged at from £67 for a single or £87 for a double per night. In my experience that's per room, not per person, so could still be within your budget.
The hotel is an interesting art deco style, and although it's not a swanky place, it is more interesting than your usual faceless budget hotel. It also has a pretty cool 1950's style bowling alley below in a former underground carpark. I've always had trouble booking through the website for some reason, and usually phone if I need to make a booking tel: +44 (0)20 7278 7871/2/3, but you can view the hotel details here http://www.imperialhotels.co.uk/tavistock1_hotel.aspx

I have friends who always stay at the Hotel Cavendish which is fairly centrally located in Bloomsbury. The website says online rates for a single ensuite are £50-65. It's a nice area and the hotel was recently renovated, according to their site.

Ooh...good one June! That does look nice. I'll make a note of that for work bookings :)

When me and my friends went recently we stayed at the Howard Winchester Hotel literally about a 2 minute walk from kings cross station. It was about £30 if I remember correctly. You got a mini full english for breakfast too! The rooms were quite small but they were good because they had a little en-suite and they had large rooms so if youre going with a lot of people you can all stay in one room if you'd like to. It wasnt exactly the Ritz but it was clean and comfortable enough for us (Including one of my friends who usually moans about everything).

we are staying at the Cherry Court Hotel just behind Victoria Station in August. It's ensuite and recommended by Rick Steves book. Rick has never sent me to a loser but is very clear on this one that the rooms are VERY small. It's 55 pounds a night for 2 of us. I understand that the Patels that run the place are most helpful.

Hotel Olympia,49 Earls Court, pretty central location,in zone 1, 2 minutes walk from the tube. I stayed in a double room with shower, for 5 nights, in the month of September, 2006, for 40 pounds per night, incuding breakfast, clean place. You may try, it may cost you around 45 pounds a night now in summer peak tourist time.Website, info@hotelolympia.co.uk.
