| Washington D.C. | Parking Downtown DC Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 10:25 PM UTC
Our family will be in DC for 2 nights over July 4th and will be staying at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on NW 14th st. We plan to walk and use the metro/bus lines to get around, but need to park our car during the stay. I hate to pay the $30 a day hotel fee. Any parking garages in that area or other options?

Others may disagree, but if you have guaranteed parking in the middle of DC for only $30 a day, you should take it; especially 4th of July weekend. There are garages near where you are staying, but most are not 24 hour (meaning you will have to move your car or let it be locked up overnight) and the daily rate is going to be the same or a little more than what the hotel is charging you. Plus, it is a LOT cheaper than getting your car towed or the hassle of getting it back.

I agree completely! $30/day is not bad at all. The long-term parking situation in DC, if you are not a city resident, is quite difficult to deal with. Most spots are either metered or restricted to neighborhood residents. The hassle you will encounter trying to find a spot on the street will really not be worth it (you'll probably end up spending two hours just driving around looking for one), and parking lots anywhere in that area will cost $30/day or more. So just use the hotel lot and save yourself the headaches.

$30 where do I sign up? I went to the OPM building to do a one hour interview and it cost me $20.

Thanks everyone! Coming from Kansas, $30 a day seemed high. Your replies helped put it in perspective for me.
