London Hotel vs. B&B
Posted: Tue October 7, 2003 02:32 PM UTC
I am meeting my girlfriend in London for a 3 day/night weekend in mid October. We are a late 20s couple and it will be both of our birthdays. I am aware that lodging in London can be very expensive. Does anyone have any recommendations, from experience, for a clean relatively inexpensive (less than $100 US for both of us per night or as little as possible) hotel or B&B that is also somewhat private (no paperthin walls!) as I have not seen her in a few months. Hopefully, it is in a central location. We dont need a TV or anything fancy but en suite bathroom is preferred. Also, is it better to pre-book or try and bargain once we arrive as I hear weekends can be cheaper. Thanks so much.

As your time in town is relatively limited it is important that you stay centrally and close to the underground so that you get the best from your trip.

I would recommend the Travel Inn chain, they offer good quality accomodation right in the centre of town. Their hotel at London County Hall is next to the London Eye, opposite the Houses of Parliament . Cost is a little more than your budget but well worth it.

Alternatively you could try Lastminute.com who deep discount good quality hotels and always have lots of offers in London. difficulty with this is that you need to book very close to expected arrival to get the best deals.

Enjoy your trip

Hi,
Recommend that you definitely book in advance otherwise London gets really full at the weekends and all the best deals are taken. Trying to bargain on arrival rarely works with the hotels as most staff members have very little authority to discount on the rates. Would also recommend lastminute.com, like the above advice or hotels-london.co.uk, they will both give you hotels which have been seen by the company staff, so you know they can't be that bad!

I was recently in London and got a twin room at the Strand Palace at about $80 a night which was great for this place (pretty well known hotel in London). Hopefully you can as well, but it might be at least $100 now. You can't beat the location as it's just south of Covent Garden and east of trafalgar Sq. You can easily walk to SoHo and Big Ben, ect. Room was small but not paper-thin walls. Hotel web site is at:

Just keep searching for deals or maybe they'll just give you a good rate. Good luck!!

Also try the Travelodge chain. They have at least one in London and are about the same quality and price as Travel Inn. Yes, pre-book for sure.

check out the website for the Travel Inn. It has everthing that you need in the hotel. All Travel Inns have a restaurant, private bathrooms and near tourist attractions. The website is www.travelinn.co.uk. Also you can check out my web page under "essexgirl". Have fun!!
