| Reykjavík | Blue Lagoon and city stroll... all in a day? Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 09:57 PM UTC
Hi,
Will be on a cruise stop in Reykjavik from 7am - 4pm (on a Friday in August) and was wondering if there will be enough time to take public transport to the Blue Lagoon, and then spend some time strolling around the city before heading back to the ship? I found a bus operator (Reykjavik Excursions) that operates a bus tour for 3 hours and the tour leaves/returns to the bus terminal. Is the bus terminal close to the cruise terminal? And also, if there is just a little more time, would like to sample some local fare in town. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Regards, Jeana |

Welcome to Iceland1
Normally cruise boats come to a place which is in no walking distance to the centre and bus terminal. I believe something will be arranged to pick up the tourists. Trip to BL might take about 1 hr each way and the fun itself should not be less than an hour. Downtown RVK is just 2 streets and 1 square worth looking at and can be done in 2 hr if you are really slow.

The blue lagoon is actually quite a long way out of Reykjavik. It takes 45-1 hours drive and then the same back, don't take a taxi as they are horrifically expensive (£75 one way when I was there 6 years ago!!)
If you only have a few hours then spend it looking at the city itself. It has a lovely cathedral, plenty of places to stroll or go up to the pearl for a view over the city.
