| Philippines | Going to Palawan Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 09:39 PM UTC
I have some foreign friends who wants to visit Philippines next year. I'm planning to bring them in Palawan. I'm a Filipino but had never been in this place before. Anyway, I'm a little bit skeptical about the security in this place. Is Palawan a safe place to travel for tourist?
Thanks... |

I don't think you will have problems security wise. It was featured in the news recently about the changes that Mayor Hagedorn made in Puerto Princesa re security. He implemented new laws re traffic and he installed "tourist police" that rove the city -- they are in eco friendly vehicles and more accesible to tourists.
one area you can go is Coron, Palawan. The limestone cliffs are really awe inspiring and the snorkeling (Tubattaha) is world class. I went there recently and will make a posting in the coron page -- sooner or later =) I'm sure your friends will be really enthralled by the Philippines after your trip there. Have fun!

i frequent palawan 4 times a year (puerto princesa), i may say the most peaceful and crime free. i noticed motorcycles parked in the markeplace do not have chains, tourists (foreigners and locals) are visible left and right. no cellphone snatching.

I cannot speak for Puerto Princesa since I only spent a day there. But I stopped in Sabang, El Nido for a few days and Coron for one week. I had no problems, nor heard any other travelers report of problems.
I too would recommend Coron as a nice place. I enjoyed my stay there and would love to return.
