| Venice | bookshop for learning of foreign languages Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 03:58 PM UTC
I would like to take the opportunity whilst I am in Venice to buy some self-study books for learning Spanish (because I couldn't quite get them in my home country). Any bookshops near Piazzale Roma or S. Marco (or anywhere on the island)? Directions to the bookshops very much appreciated.

I assume that you are an English speaker living in Hong Kong - hope that's correct?
I would expect a "teach yourself Spanish book" bought in Italy to have explanations and "Tuitional" content in Italian - OK if you are confident in Italian. In Hong Kong where there is a tradition of English Language use in the University etc. it might be easier be possible to get a book with an English Have you come across the Academic & Professional Bookcentre, Kowloon Tel: 852 2398 2191 Fax: 852 2391 7430

I was thinking the same as the poster above - I've seen really good books and courses on Italian and English as foreign languages in Italy, but the selection for other languages is generally poor.
However, I then remembered that Venice has a university with a renowned foreign language department: Ca' Foscari. (www.unive.it) There must be various places selling books for the students, so perhaps use the Pagine Gialle (above) and focus your search on the area near the uni? At the very least, someone in an academic bookshop should be able to tell you where to go. Good luck!
