| Delhi | Delhi Weather in June Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 01:37 PM UTC
I am visiting Delhi for the last few weeks of June.
(I know this is not the ideal time of year!) Can anybody tell me what the weather may be like? Will the monsoons have arrived? Are they really bad? - Should I consider cancelling the trip? What sort of clothing is advisable for June? Is Mumbai weather much different in June? Thanks Muchly |

Yes, the weather is definately not tourist friendly in Delhi, in June, and you can expect the day temp. to be around 34 Degree Celcis and more. The south west monsoons do not hit Delhi before mid July, and you can expect dry and hot days. One cannot rule out local showeres though. As regards Mumbai (Bombay) traditionally 13 June is the day to expect the monsoons arrival, so end of June will be wet. As regards clothing you may carry light cottons, as they will keep you comfortable. A windcheater can double up to keep you dry in light showers.
Now may be you can decide for yourself with regard to the weather if you want to be here. The best time In India weather wise is end september to end January.

Delhi in June is very hot and very dry like in a furnace, expect temperatures in the mid 40's Celcius. It is very easy to get a heat stroke. The monsoons do not set in before mid July although you may get the occasional pre monsoon shower, which, if you are so lucky, would cool things down a bit.
Mumbai weather is totally different, it is very humid especially in June. Summer temperatures hover between 33 and 36C. The beginning of June will be overcast with perhaps a few odd showers and the monsoons usually set in by the second week or so. Once it starts raining, the weather cools down. Be warned that in Mumbai it can rain non stop for days on end with flooding and traffic disruptions. If you are coming as a tourist, put off your trip if feasible to September. I would avoid Delhi like the plague in June but if you can bear that kind of desert heat, go ahead. If you do come to a monsoon region then head for a hilly area where there will be lovely waterfalls. Plenty of such places close to Mumbai.

It is HOT like you have never experienced before: day temperatures will be in mid to high 40s, and even nights won't go down below 30+ or so.
Being out and about from after 11 am to about 5ish will be indavisable- danger of sunstroke. Sometimes you get this hot wind, called luu, which can cause quick dehydration. Monsoon does not hit Delhi till at least mid-July, which is when temps. will b bearable while it rains, but when the sun comes out, it will still be hot and humid. Also you will need malaria protection in monsoon. Best times to visit are October to March, end Sept. and early April can be good. Also it is advisable to wear loose clothing that covers you somewhat (short sleeves) and loose cotton trousers or skirts, rather than the Western notion of stripping into shorts and strappy t-shirts which do nothing to cool you down and only increase risk of sunburn. Pure thin cotton is best: you will be able to pick these types of clothes cheap in Delhi.

Don't cancel.I was there early June last year and yes it was hot but there are still quite afew travellers about The Main Bazaar area-this is the backpakers area.Get yourself an air-conditined room though, they're still cheap and I noticed that prices are lower if you go on a shopping spree. You'll stil have a good time-enjoy!
