| Cyprus | Long term holiday in Cyprus Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 08:57 AM UTC
Hi, I am thinking of moving to Cyprus for approx 1month to 3months. We are In the Eu Irish so I believe you can stay up to 90 days freely. Where would be the best area to stay? or is it big enuf 2 travel to dif areas, holiday, scenic beauty beaches etc along with possible work if needed. Do you need a permit to work or is it ok if you are an irish citizen. Does anyone no anything on longterm renting? I would really like any feedback as we were thinking of going late Summer. What is the cost of living? etc

If you are an EU citizen, you can stay as long as you like. After 3 months you are required to register with the police.
The cost of living is abou the same as in western Europe, rents are higher, food is on par with Europe, petrol/gas/oil is slightly cheaper. There is ample holiday housing available for rental along the coast. However you're likely to have to rent a house for a least a year if you want a better rate than the normal tourist rate.

if you have 3 months don't plan too much. Plan the first 2-3 weeks and then decide what do you want to do next. You will be boat ride from Asia, Europe and Africa. You may want to go to Turkey, Egypt, Crete Island (see my photos and tips) or any other smaller Greek Island.
We usually travel without reservation. If we like the place we stay there for longer if not, then we see what's there to see and we move on. Inexpensive hotels in this part of the world are easy to find the day you arrive, so no worry there. If you are really planning to stay in Cyprus all 3 months, then don't tie yourselve to one town only. Move from one part of the island to another from time to time. Follow the local festivals.

Hi,
I think you'll anyhow read some travel guides and know much already yourself. Just wanted to remind, that it might be of interest to visit also Northern Cyprus; the Turkish side. Nicosia is namely the only divided capital city of the world nowadays after the Berlin wall collapsed. In the north you should definitely visit Kyrenia, which is said to have the most beautiful harbour of the whole Cyprus. It was really beautiful and it has some panoramic restaurants as well. Otherwise I'd make sure I see the Troodos mountain area, the nearby tiny village Omodos and some of the UNESCO World Heritage churches or monasteries in the area. Paphos is a lively and youthful holiday resort in the south-west. Limassol and the others perhaps little more peaceful.
