I'm flying from Chicago to Bangkok with a quick plane change in Tokyo. Will I have to claim my bag and go through customs, need any specific forms (visas), or will this be a hassle-free stop? Any other comments on this would be appreciated. Thanks for the help!

Hi,
If your ticket is from Chicago to Bangkok you need not claim your luggage in Tokyo.they will do the transferring of your luggage to the Bangkok bound plane. If you habve any doubts, please feel free to talk to someone at the luggage counter at Tokyo airport.they do speak in English. They are very polite and helpful.Sometimes they will come and ask you if you have any problem and attend to every little detail. Have a pleasant flight. VT Wimaladasa.

Many flights from the USA to Asia has connections at Narita. You do not go through immigration or customs. if you are changing airlines, then there may be a terminal change..if you are coming in on United and continuing on United no problem at all, but if you are coming in on United and leaving on Northwest, there may be a change of terminals. you will not leave the terminals and usually the connecting flights are within 2 to 3 hours. it is a very easy airport to transit and the workers there are extremely polite and helpful. This last time I transited through Narita, I changed from Northwest from Singapore to American to Dallas and beyond. When i got to Narita, there was a Northwest Employee with my name on a card and she walked me through the security to the bus that leaves for the other terminal ( Terminals 1 and 2), and everything went smoothly.
