La Paz smelled bad when I arrived, so I didn't stop there, carried on through.
Sucre was interesting. A real city with traffic lights and all! There were a lot of dinosaur footprints to see. Santa Cruz was a big sweaty city in the eastern half of the country = jungly. I didn't see much to keep me there. In fact none of these places are really worth spending time in. The must-see is the Salar de Uyuni, which is like nothing else on Earth. Potosí was OK-ish, but the silver mines are a bit of a joke. Stayed some time in Copacabana on Lake Titicaca.

La Paz is a great base if you want to stuff as many activities into a few days as you can because it has the majority of tourist agencies in Bolivia. So if you want to climb, hike, mountain bike, paraglide, do a jungle trip, etc. it can all be set up quickly from La Paz. I liked La Paz - most don't I guess - but the combination of hustling urbanites and traditionally clothed mountain folks was a crazy setting. Didn't get to Santa Cruz despite spending just over four months in Bolivia but Sucre was a great city - not a lot to do there but visit markets in the highlands, see the dino footprints, mountain bike tours can be arranged, I think paragliding as well? We chilled out there though for at least a week just enjoying walking the city, drinking coca tea or beer every day from the overlook above the city - nice place. Overall of all the countries I visited in my time in South America Bolivia definitely stood out as one of the top, if not THE best, place I travelled. It isn't always about what there is to see but just hanging out, meeting a few people and watching the daily flow of the country that makes it special.
Have a great trip, Scott
