| Perth | Re Mandurah and swim with dolphins Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 04:16 PM UTC
A friend suggested that it is a good idea to stay overnight at a canal home in Mandurah to see the dolphins and also to drive towards Rockingham to swim with them.Is it worth doing? and would it be too cold to swim since we're going to be there end of May?

Well says they do them til and of May.....if you have a wet suit you will probly be ok....weather has been nice so far but is definately cooling down. When you say stay overnight in a canal home, not sure what you mean. There's lots of expensive homes there and not sure you could find one for just 1 night. Did your friend do this? Cheers Col & Sue

Wheter or not you think it too cold will depend on where you are form and you perosnal preference.
Some people swim all year round on Rockingham beaches, others only swim when it's over 30c.

I dont think you need to stay overnight in Mandurah to see the dolphins there are canal trips run everyday that will allow you to see dolphins. I am not sure what your expectation of swimming with dolphins is? I have been in or on the beach when dolphins have been sighted but dont know of anyone who has actually swam with dolphins. Incidentally dolphins can be seen in lots of place I drive along the Kwinana Freeway on my way to work and often see them under the bridge or frollicking near the waters edge of the Swan River also taking the ferry Fremantle to Perth I have seen dolphins swimming with the ferry. it is still quite warm yesterday 26c today 24c but is getting chilly overnight.

Hi I was in Mandurah for the weekend, saw dolphins in many places including the canals. Suggest you take the 1 hour ferry cruise through the canals and estury, they always stop about 500 metres past the Old Bridge to watch the dolphins around lunch time.
Mandurah is a great place for an overnight stay, check out my Mandurah page and you will see how good it is. Good Luck, Mike

Hi You can now catch the train to Mandurak, travels at 130 km per hour and Perth to Mandurah takes 48 minutes, a day pass costs approx $7.50 and the shuttle bus meets the train and takes you to the Esplanade, the shuttle has pick up times , so no worries.
