I will be traveling to the Azores in March or April 2009, with my mom and sister. We will spend 4 days in/around Velas, Sao Jorge and would like to find accomodations that are less than $100 US per night. I have not been able to find very much information on guesthouses/pensions on the internet. Also, is it necessary to make reservations before we arrive or would be able to find a place when we arrive since it is March/April? I have read that you can go into a pub and find a room with the locales.
We will have one night each in Ponto Delgado and Horta...should we make reservations prior to arrival?
Any information is greatly appreciated!!

I've been there last summer. It's the most beautiful place where I've been in my life. BUT it was cold! In August was 22°C! And in the mountain about 13-14°C. So if you'd like to travel there in April...well, I don't know :)
But you have swim with dolphins (the ocean was very cold of course)!
We were staying at Hotel Platano or Canadian or sg like this. It's a 3* hotel - it' was quiet normal.

There are at least a couple of Rural Tourism Houses.

As for the weather, the Azores are kown for all weather in one day. Spring is surely awesome with the flowers blooming.
