Karlsruhe around the europe
Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 03:24 PM UTC
Dear,
I'm 24 and going to travel:
- Turkey-karlsruhe : 14june
- Karlsruhe-Prague : 16june (afternoon)
- Prague-Gent : 20june
- Gent-Turkey : 25june
I want to know about the economic way to travel and also about the economic hotels in these cities.
I've found your website the best way to find my answer. I'm waiting for your best suggestions.
Best Regards,
Leila

Will you be starting from Istanbul and which Karlsruhe do you plan to visit -there are several towns in Germany with that name. Can you say where it is close to or give a Post Code?

Looks as though you are planning to cover between 3 and 4 thousand miles 10 days with overnight stops in 3 different places. If you want to do any sight seeing for some legs of your travels Air may be the best option.

Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB)
http://www.badenairpark.de/sub_airport/index-en.html
No direct flights from Turkey to this airport before end of June 2008.

Next close airports are Stuttgart (STR) and Frankfurt (FRA).
Check with www.germanwings.com or www.tuifly.com. Latter offers you also to book a Rail&Fly ticket (EUR 19,99) you could use to travel onward to Karlsruhe.

DB timetable
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
From: Karlsruhe
To: Prague
and select as means of transport "without ICE/EC/IC"
Cheap if you use 3 tickets for this trip.
1. Baden-Württemberg Ticket Single EUR 18,00
2. Bavaria-Bohemia Ticket Single EUR 22,00
3. normal ticket Plzen/Pilsen to Praha/Prague ~ EUR 7,00
1.+2. can be bought from ticket machines in Karlsruhe
Buy 3. from the Czech conductor (comes on board in Furth im Wald). Get in Karlsruhe some Czech Korunies (CZK) for this.

A rather long trip by train. But even with far distance trains not much faster but more expensive. Not aware of any flight option making sense.

Check e.g. at http://www.whichbudget.com/ for budget flights from Prague to Brussels and from there by train.

As for places to stay in Karlsruhe, about 100 members of this community are preparing to come here in late May for the Euromeet. There is a loooong thread about hotels in Karlsruhe entitled "Euromeet 2008: Please share your hotel deals." You'll find a lot of recommendations and prices there.

If you are on a budget I would recommend Karlsruhes Youth Hostal. Considering your age you would perfectly fit in there. There is a Youth Hostal registration required however. But that should not be a problem. It is perfectly located next to the Hardtwald forest but within walking distance to the city center.

For more info (fares, regulations and so on) see:
