I think 6 nights in Interlaken are too much, unless you already have plans for all those 6 days there. Landscapes around Interlaken are nice, you can book a lot of activities there (rafting, canyoning, etc), and you can take the train to the Jungfrau which is a must (although it's a very expensive trip). We did all that and we only needed to stay for 3 nights.
Luzern is quite nice. I'd take one night off Interlaken for Luzern. If you are travelling by car, and if you have time I'd go on a one-day trip to Appenzell, stroll there for a couple of hours, and then I'd head for Schaffhausen waterfalls. So in your case my suggestion is: zurich (2 nights), appenzell, schaffahausen, luzern (2 nights), interlaken (3 nights), zermatt (i haven't been there so I can't tell). if this helps our route last summer was: zurich (2 nights), appenzell, schaffausen, konstanz (germany, 1 night), freiburg (germany, 2 nights), luzern (1 night), interlaken (3 nights), locarno (2 nights). Except for konstanz and locarno (that are ok but we could have done without them) I do recommend all the other places. Good luck!

Whatever you do I think that you'll really enjoy Switzerland. Many good suggestions above. I love Interlaken and we spent a week there last year and are going back for 6 nights in August. We've been there many times and it's my favorite place on earth. We always have a rail pass so we can get on trains all that we want. We would go to Murren for lunch one day and then take a walk up the Lauterbrunen valley to see the waterfall on the way back down between the cog train and the regular one. We'd go up the smaller Harder Kulm for a great view of the area. We usually get on one of the Lake steamers for a ride. Last year we took the train and then a bus from Breinz to Ballenberg Outdoor Folk Park. All of that is free with a Swiss Pass. This year we are going to the William Tell Play in the outdoor amphitheater. We just love to be there... I'd get in at least 2 days a Lucerne and only 2 at Zermatt. It's very beautiful but there's not much to do. Great views from Hotel Alpen Rose with balconies and a restaurant on the patio facing the Matterhorn. Feel free to write if you can stand more of my opinions kathymay4-ok@yahoo.com

I've been back to the Jungfrau area twice so 6 days doesn't seem like a whole lot to me but do suggest that two nights in Lucerne would be better. Given your itinerary, I would take the day away from Interlaken.

I think Bern is also worth a visit.

Hi,
I would agree that 1 night in Luzern is not really enough. I would take a night off interlaken and add another night in Luzern. You can do some great excursions from Luzern - Mt. Pilatus, Stanserhorn, Titlis and Lake trips, as well as the beautiful town of luzern itself. Just back from there myself and only spent one night there and regretted not staying longer. Shaffhausen is also beautiful, from where you can visit the impressive Rhine Falls - 1 hour from zurich by train.
