| Prague | TRANSPORT TO PRAGUE FROM VIENNA Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 10:42 AM UTC
Hey i am a looking for transport options to Prague from Vienna. I will probably be purchasing a Eurail pass as i am an Australian resident however the Czech Republic is not included in one of the rail pass countries but i still would love to visit Prague. May i ask anyone for help regarding cheap transport bus or train to Prague from Vienna.
Thank you Curtis |

24 EUR return (bus change in Brno) http://www.eurolines.at/ 24 EUR return (direct bus) Travel time is the same as by train, train is more expensive.

You probably don't need a Eurail pass, they are not very good value. Many railways have advance purchase deals that are a lot cheaper than regular tickets. Maybe just tell us what your itinerary is, and we on the forum will be able to give you tips on saving money.
The other poster mentioned the bus. I would consider travelling by train however. A normal TCV price ticket on Praha - Wien is 35,- which is indeed more expensive but there might be a reduced fare available. However, the train has more departures, and is a lot more comfortable.

I agree with the previous poster about the Eurail Pass but this is a subject which has been done to death on this forum. In any event if you do have a Eurail Pass, you will not be charged from Vienna to the Austrian border only from the border to Prague. You will still have to pay the Eurail supplement for your seat reservation. Also to make it cheaper you could elect to travel 2nd class all they way (your Eurail Pass is first class unless you are on a Youth Pass)then at least for the Czech sector you will only have to pay for 2nd class. There are many trains from Vienna to Prague that have no changes so it makes sense to travel 2nd class all the way. Have a great trip and I hope this makes sense.

I guess the best is use the yellow buses of student agency. There is a change of the buses in Brno. One way ticket is 24 EUR, the return one 48. With ISIC there is a discount.
there is a webpage, but the info about buses is in czech only http://www.studentagency.cz/mainpage.php?switch=101142 however they speak english in the offices.
