Pisa Beach near pisa, help with getting there and advise which one.
Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 09:44 AM UTC
Hello all, my honeymoon is fast approaching (2 weeks to go) and we will be in beautiful italy. We will be staying a few days in florence, the plan is to use one day to visit pisa and a beach.

We will get up early and get the train to pisa. Only reason for going is to be total tourists and take photos of ourselves 'holding up the tower'. After that we would like to go to the beach. As most of our hols will be city based we would like to take one day to relax on a beach. I have checked out a website for viareggio which i believe you can reach by train from pisa. The only problem is that it doesn't look like a relaxing beach. Packed full of sunbeds and no where to throw a towl down.

Please can anyone advise me on which beach to go to and how to get there (by train from pisa?). Also we need to get back to florence later on. Would like to make a day of it stopping for an evening meal etc. What is the latest we would be able to make it back (by train). We will later be in Naples and will try and visit the Amalfi coast but from what i can tell this is more rugged coastline than beach.

Would appreicate any help anyone can give.
Jacqueline
P.S. Really can't wait now :)

First of all, congratutations.... and have a great honeymoon.

For the rest... mmmm it can be hard, or probably impossible, to reach a quiet nice beach by train... Because trains stops are in crowded places, of course!

Have you considered renting a car (or even better a scooter) for your day? If so, there are a lot of quit places to reach close to Pisa ( Marina di Torre del Lago Puccini, just to say one). But take a look yourself with google earth... You can see the beaches in quite high resolution.

Francesco

I agree with Francesco. Life would be easier to reach a beach with a car.
Nevertheless, the following are the closest and the first one is reachable from Pisa by bus.
1/ Marina di Pisa. (frequent bus services to and from the city) 13kms
2/ Tirrenia (Possibly a bus service, but I don't know of one) 15 kms
3/ Calambrone( As above) 20 kms

Thanks for your help guys. We could not hire a car as neither of us can drive and i would not want to risk a scooter. A bus from pisa would be fine as long as they are regular going back later on in the day. Can anyone offer advice on where to get buses in pisa? Thanks again

Hi there,
you can catch bus no 010 from San Piero al Grado(Pisa). This bus goes to Marina di Pisa - 20 minutes. If you stay on board, you will arrive at Tirrenia 10 minutes later. These buses run every 20 minutes. The last one leaves Marina di Pisa at 1010 pm for Pisa.

Hi Jacqueline, Another option would be to get the train down to La Spezia. I really enjoyed my trip there & you can get a direct train from Florence . This would give you longer to explore Pisa which in my opinion deserves more than just a look at the Leaning Tower. Have a lovely time, Darren.
