| Venice | how much train venice to rome Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 04:07 AM UTC
I'm thinking of catching the train from venice to rome in the morning. I looked on the trenitalia site and I can see the timetable, but under the buy column it says NO. Does this mean the train is sold out or I cant buy tickets online? If anyone has done this in Oct, how much does it usually cost? Thanks!

Hi,
don't worry too much, most of these sites do not allow you to purchases tickets or make bookings further out than 60 days. If you wait until August for your October travel you should find them available. Otherwise purchase them while you are in Italy. cheers,

Yes, you can't buy in big advance. But to know the official price, just look at a similar train in a close date.

Only reservation-only trains get 'sold out' but, as the others have noted, you are looking too far ahead.
You can book online if you want when the data is loaded, but you could equally well buy your ticket a couple of days or so (or less) in advance whilst you are in Venice. In October there should be no difficulties with availability, apart from perhaps on the odd train on certain days/times. Fares are likely to be much the same as they are now, perhaps a few euros more, so check out a similar journey for May to give you an idea of cost. Train travel in Italy is very reasonably-priced.
