The UK is not a cheap destination, and Lodon is even more expensive.
If you want to get cheap fares(with budget or mainstream carriers), then you must book well in advance (usually at least 6-8 weeks before departure). There are no last-minute cheap fares in Europe. www.whichbudget.com and www.harefares.com are good sites to check Also www.skyscanner.net and www.flycheapo.com. Train travel in much of Europe is very reasonable, and you will often finrd point-to-point tickets are cheaper than buying a Eurail pass (Eurail is an agency, not a railway company), depending on how many journeys you intend to take. http://www.bahn.de/p/view/international/englisch/i will give you times/routes for trains across Europe but you will have to check fares for ost journeys on the country's own website. Most have an English version. Google the country name + 'railway'. The UK is an exception: railway travel is expensive. www.nationalrail.co.uk will give you times and fares (there are sometimes cheaper fare if you buy in advance) but if you plan to explore the UK by rail it might be worth considering a Britail pass. www.britrail.com

Fly to London, then get a one of the European rail passes take the train to Paris and plan a leisurely rail tour.
The trains at least arrive in the middle of cities, near the hostels, the budget airlines don't come close. http://www.raileurope.com/us/index.htm

as you can porobably guess from the replies alraedy. it depends on
1. where you are coming from 2. how old you are 3. what your budget is (think about total, nad split between travelling/ sleeping/ eating and other living expenses (like entrance fees)
