| Vancouver | Vancouver: one day only Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 07:34 PM UTC
We are planning on spending the night in Vancouver on our way home from our road trip through the Canadian Rockies in early June. We'll be driving from Kamploops, so I figure we will arrive in Vancouver around 2 in the afternoon. We will leave for Seattle the next morning/early afternoon. I'm wondering what we could do to get a quick taste of the city while we are there. I've thought about one of the suspension bridges, Stanley Park, and Gastown for dinner and shopping (not sure how much I can cram into one afternoon and one morning). What sites would you visit with this short amount of time? Any suggestions on inexpensive (under $100) places to stay in a good location?

Granville Island in the morning must be added to your short visit in Vancouver.

I don't think you will find anything under $140 without Pimps and Ho's in Vancouver at that time of year.

Skip the suspenison bridge, after checking into your hotel, for a nice view of the city, take the "Sea Bus" the boat departs from the old CP station across the water to North Vancouver, a short 15 minute ride each way. There is a nice market located at the Quay in North Vancouver. You might enjoy walking along the waterfront along coal harbour to Stanley Park. Robson Street is the shopping street and just like all other shopping streets it is mostly big name stores at big name prices that you can see anywhere, so skip it. Yaletown is an up and coming area and there are some good restaurants located there a nice place for dinner. Forget Granville Street, bars, homeless and druggies abound. You might check out Pacific Center, it is the underground mall in the city centre. As far as hotels, it is cruise season here so hotels are very expensive.
