| Singapore | Short trip Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 06:52 PM UTC
We will be staying in KL for 3 days (husband, self and kid) and then I plan to make a short 3 day trip to Singapore and back while my hubby is in KL on business.
1. I plan to take a day bus to Sing. since I beleive this is faster (Transtar / Aeroline). Is it safe for a woman and kid to travel alone and how long would it take. Or would you suggest flying? I am looking to balance budget with safety and ease of travelling. 2. I plan to stay in NSS, Bugis. Please suggest which buses would arrive closest to this hotel. Also, are there any other decent hotels in a central location at the same rate as NSS. 3. Since I have been to Sing. two years back, I would like to see the newer attractions. Apart from Vivocity, lights show at Sentosa what else can I go to? Is the Sing. flyer / marina bay area open yet? Thanks a lot |

Just came back from our KL and Singapore trip. We took the Transtar bus. The cost is 75 for a Premier bus and 89 for a first class bus. It is very convenient and safe. The bus stop is at the Golden Mile Complex in Bugis. It is within walking distance with NSS but since you are travelling with a kid, then better take a taxi instead.
Yes, the Singapore flyer is open already. =)

HI!
Transtar will be the best option really....though I believe Grassland coaches run the same luxury class service too these days. The journey is 5-6 hrs and should be smooth running. Both services should end at Beach Road, which is about 15-20 minutes walk to the NSS. You can grab a taxi to get there or there are buses that will bring you very near too. You could try the South East Asia Hotel, not far from the NSS (do check my VT SGP page)

The Bus from K.L. to Singapore is great, no worries. I took it for the first time last March and it was great. No worries.
Depending on how old your kid is, you could check out the Night Safari there.

Have taken the buses between KL and Singapore. It is safe. But I always travel during daytime or early evening as late night buses tend to speed.
I like the "new" National Museum near the YMCA Orchard Road. Also the duck tour (land and sea) which you can take at Suntec City. For more details, you can check out many Singapore VT tips at http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/b0c09/16d27f/

A few more questions I missed on the last post.
1. Are there any buses with toilets on board? My kid is 8 yrs. old and I myself would feel comfortable with this facility. 2. What happens if there is a big queue at the border and I miss the bus. Does our bus wait or do we take the next bus. In that case, do we have to wait for a bus from the same company and what if that bus is full? Also, I am using the Visa on arrival on arriving at KL. I have a multiple entry visa for Sing. Can I go to Sing. and come back in 3 days and use the Visa on arrival in Malaysia again? 3. I maybe staying with a relative in Mont Kiara in KL. I believe only Odyssey has a bus from there. Any reviews on their service would be welcome. 4. Finally, any budget airlines that I can take. I realise the time taken is the same, but I would be a lot more comfortable.

Cheapest way to fly is to take AirAsia from K.L. to Johor Bahru and then take a bus/taxi into Singapore from there.
They have some "Fly Free" deals going on right now. Go to their website and check out the schedule. www.airasia.com Personally, I am not going to fly again from Singapore to K.L., because I feel the bus I took was so much more comfortable and relaxing. Ron
