Chile Traveling from Huacachina, Peru to Santiago, Chile.
Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 03:28 PM UTC
Hey everybody,

I've got 5-7 days to bus down to Santiago from Huacachina. Does anyone have any good recommendations on where to stop on the way down? I will probably see Arequipa for a day and I'll probably stop in the Atacama desert for a day as well. Is it difficult to find reliable busses from place to place like this on the way down? Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated!

Happy Trails

You could stop in Arica, Iquique, Antofagasta or go off th direct route to San Pedro. Closer to Santiago there is La Serena, Coquimbo and the Elqui Valley - maybe visit one of the observatories. You can't just stop in the Atacama Desert - you have to choose where. No problem with bus service everywhere is connected.

I would stop in Arequipa and San Pedro de Atacama only.
