Barcelona Train to Montserrat
Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 03:21 PM UTC
I know that we can take the FGC train from Plaça d'Espanya station and then cable car to Montserrat. I will be traveling with a large group. How many passengers can the train and the cable car hold?

You may want to send an inquiry to customer service at:

Not sure how large is your group but these trains are sometimes very popular so there will be other passengers.

Unless you have a huge group or you are traveling on a holiday, you shouldn't have trouble all getting on the train. I don't remember exactly how big the aerial cable cars are, but you can always split the group up and go in several cars; they leave continuously, IIRC.

Here's the website in English: http://www.fgc.net/accesible/eng/viatjar/xarxa.htm

Word of warning - the train back from from Montserrat can be very crowded, mainly on the return leg. To be sure you can all fit comfortably on the train you might want to take the cogwheel railway back down from Montserrat instead of the cable car. The train picks up from both the cable car and cogwheel railway stops but picks up the cogwheel tain passengers first before going on to pick up cable car passenegers. The train will be a lot less busy at the cogwheel pickup station so you have a better chance to keep the group together. I took the cable car up and down and we had to squeeze into the train on the way back to Barcelona. I noticed a large group of scouts who tried to get on together and ended up having to seperate out on the train as it was so crowded.
