Buenos Aires Bar/Pub with American Sports?
Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 02:11 PM UTC
Hey all - I've been living in BsAs for a few months now and have frequented The Alamo on many occasions for watching NBA and NFL games, etc., but I'm looking for a change of scenery, and preferably a place with better drink specials, or least prices that are more similar to a typical Argentine bar. The prices at The Alamo are very obviously (and maybe appropriately) set for foreigners with Dollars, not Pesos, so basically I'm looking for a better deal. Any suggestions?? Thanks.

well the guys that own el alamo are good friends of mine, but that being said i have an alternative for what you are looking for.

i just opened a new bar and it is still in the soft opening stage as we continual to complete the entire build-out. the name is "Casa Bar" located at 1150 rodriguez pena across from cumana and la cholita restaurant ( both very popular and affordable ).

as not to plug my bar on this site and what we are doing here i will keep to your questions.

currently open 5 days per week tuesday - saturday @ 10 pm till very very late.
we have on the first floor 2 42" lcd tvs w/ the full direct tv sports package.
( right now as i type the nba play-offs are on the screens w/ great music playing thru the sound system.

eventually all three floors will be open ( classic petite style hotel ).

what to drink?

cervesa - heineken ( tap & bottle ), stella artois, corona, bass, grolsch, negra modelo, staropramen, lowenbrau, antares red & porter (tap & bottle ), guiness, quilmes, bud, patagonia, wartsteiner, leffe and the list is gowing.

liqour - as good as you will anywhere and growing.

cafe - illy ( the finest italian espresso )& pelligrino water

sorry our cocina is not open yet, however, you can order from the local restaurants for delivery.

so to compare a heineken bar to a quilmas bar is like comparing apples and oranges. el alamo has probably the best drink prices in town. what we offer is great drink specials and drinks. drink prices are comparable with most places, except that as a new bar we are offering daily specials. so something for everyones budget.

also we have a smoking section.

remember this:

mi casa es mi casa , but your are all welcome

If you weren't advertising your bar on this site, you would have said "A new bar just opened across from La Cholita in Palermo which has NBA games and good drinks." Thank you for the information.

if you look at my profile you will see that i have been a vt member for several years. perhaps i should have left your posting unresponded to and let you continue to blow your pancho and hostel budget at the el alamo drinking 4 liter pitchers of quilmas at a whopping 4 - 5 pesos per glass. ouch!

maybe as a vt member in the future i would also like to offer a special discount to its members. vt has been a very informative network for me and sometimes its a nice thing to do nice things in return. i guess thats just me.

so let me repost my add just for you.

hey there is a new bar at such and such a place that has AMERICAN sports and does not target AMERICANS with Green Backs. Muey bien!

best deal i can offer to you is to buy your cervesa at the mercado and enjoy argentina and not worry so much about american sports. lastly, stay in the san telmo area or in the provinces because inflation is going through the roof.

suerte

so... i've been in BA for 2 weeks, and i have tried to go to el alamo about 3 times to catch NBA playoff games. But 3 times it has been closed. Does anyone know why? When it will open again?

I LIVE in Argentina, and I'm not "worrying" about American sports, as you so kindly put it. Thank you so much for your help.

As far as why the Alamo has been closed, I haven't been there in awhile because of trying to save money - and because I've found out they televise all the NBA playoff games on cable - so maybe you go to a small cafe or something tonight, since there's no futbol, you could ask them to change the channel to "Canal 7" which is the name of the channel, although I don't think that's actually the number of the channel. Hope that helps, good luck tonight.
