| London | Taxi or Tube Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 12:29 PM UTC
what is faster and more convenient, Taxi or Tube?
I am going to a concert in London next week, and would like to know should I take a taxi or tube from Liverpool Street to Bloomsbury (the Lancaster Hotel, it is near a tube station) and then from Bloomsbury to the Wigham Hall If the taxi is faster and more convenient I don't mind paying for it, or is it a lot faster by tube? The tube isn't cheap either is it? |

There's a location map link here:
http://www.bhrconline.com/uk/asp/hid_est_cd.e41/lh which gives the nearest Tube stations as Covent Garden, Holborn or Russell Square, but Holborn looks the nearest to me. The journeyplanner here: http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk/user/XSLT_TRIP_RE give a time of 7 minutes from Liverpool St to Holborn by Tube (one stop on the Central Line). I don't know where 'Wigham Hall' is, not can I find it on google. The journey planner above will only help with that part of the journey if you can give the postcode, or streetname. Taxi may be quicker for the second journey but this will depend very much on when (and where) you will be travelling. It will certainly be moe expensive: you can get an off-peak day travelcard for the Tube for 5.30 (zones 1 & 2)or 5.90 (zones 1-4). http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/faresandtickets/onea Single fare finder here: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/tickets/faresandtickets/

Aha!
In which case (and I bet it is) then you need either Bond Street or Oxford Circus Tube stations. Holborn to Bond St by Tube takes 5 minutes on the Central Line. Holborn to Oxford Circus takes 3 on the same line. Put 'W1U 2BP' into the postcode search of www.streetmap.co.uk and you will get a streetmap (amazingly!) which will show you exactly where the Tube stations are in relations to Wigmore Hall (which is on Wigmore Street). Forget the taxi!

Hi Leics,
thanks very much for your help! I will forget the taxi then. Only, returning from the Wigmore Hall, it might be after 10pm, will it be safe to travel on the tube at this time of the night?
