| Emilia-Romagna | Beaches on the West coast Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 12:21 PM UTC
I'm trying to organise a beach trip for a few of my friends for this weekend. We all live in Parma, but I've heard that the west coast is nicer than the east. I had previously planned on going to Rimini, but have now been warned against it. I'd ideally like to limit the travelling to around 3/4 hours by train. Any suggestions?

The closest west coast resort to Parma is probably Via Reggio.

Sorry, but I've just read your time scale.
You cannot reach the west coast in less than approx 2 hours.

It depends on what you want. Beache itself, organization and nightlife of Rimini are the top, but the waters are shallow and somehow muddy (even if ok), and the crowds may be huge (in big spaces, tough)
Thyrrenian has the best waters. To have a "beach" (meaning a decently sized fine sand strype, not pebbles or what) implies to go along the Tuscan shore, south from Vaireggio to south. There are a lot of nice places, but considering you wanna move by train (there is a Parma La Spezia line, with more than one train heading south without change look www.trenitalia.com ) Viareggio itself could be a nice option. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=it&geoc A car would give you much more options. Hope this helps
