| Istanbul | Questions regarding entrance fees Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 02:09 AM UTC
I understand from the other postings that the Topkapi Palace, Harem, Hagia Sophia and Basilica Cistern all require entrance fees.
Can some one please advise if they take EUR or USD. And if yes, how much? Thanks for your help. p.s. I find people in this forum are really really helpful. Thanks once again! |

Hi,
I was there last week and all of these places require a 10 Turkish Lira entrance fee, although it is free to walk around the Topkapi Palace gardens. Not sure if they take Euro or USD at these places, we just got some Turkish Lira exchanged, much easier, especially for places like the Grand Bazaar. They certainly accept card though, and most places in Turkey accept those currencies.

Entrance is 10 YTL.I don't think they accept foreign currency. You will have to change money for your other expenses anyway. Sultanahmet may be an exception but in other places foreign currency in not accepted in restaurants, shops etc.

Just got back from Istanbul, like mentioned above, entrance fees are 10 YTL. There's a big sign in their window they don't take EUR.
Opening and closing times are as ff: Topkapi- closed Tue; 9am-5pm Harem- part of Topkapi but additional 10YTL entrance Ayasofya- closed Mon; 9am-4pm Basilica Cistern- 9am-5pm hope these help.

They normally accept the local currency only (YTL).
Will there be any reason why you want to pay in EURO or US$? Otherwise, currency exchange offices are aplenty starting from the airport - the moment you pass through the immigration - and around Sultanahmet. You won't be having any trouble exchanging you money to YTL, in fact, you'll get more benefits. Hours and admission fees are posted in my Istanbul things to do here: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/a4c2f/bf0/4/ Enjoy your trip!

Dear Daniel,
If you want to enjoy your trip , do not make a lots of plan.Just enjoy it. Do not bring any money.Just bring your plastic debbit card and you credit card. When you need cash just withdraw from ATM's.ATM's are in everywhere. For taxi from the airport if you need cash go to airport ATM's and witdraw TRY.You dont need to try to find Money de Change offices.

They take YTL, as far as I know. The funny thing is that there is special tariff for tourist other than the regular one for Turkish citizens. I would advise you to ask a Turkish guy/girl to get a ticket on your behalf. The difference between ther two tariffs can be as high as triple.
