Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Paris Budget hotel and transportation
Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 07:53 PM UTC
I have just gone through quite a few pages on Paris and found most posts very helpful.
My family will be in Paris at the end of the month and after looking for a vacation apartment I've given up.
I did find a budget hotel outside of Paris - Hotel Balladins Rosny Sous Bois.
Has anyone used this hotel?
Can anyont tell me:
1. How much would it cost by RER to get into the city?
2. How do we get to the hotel from Orly airport after 11 p.m. (our flight is scheduled to land at 10:15)?

-The RER is working until late (1:30am I think).
-There is the Car Air France working until 11:30pm.

4 years ago, i did stay at a cheap hotel called The Hotel Modern in Pere LaChaise, in northeast Paris, close to the Metro. Tiny room, good bathroom, booth-like shower, but plenty of hot water. Very noisy on Saturday night, as the ground floor cafe closes late, around 2am, and they dont make any attempt to stack the chairs quietly!

Well, when I have been in Paris with my friends, we avail of this package offered at http://www.luxurylink.com. It's quiet helpful, we got big savings. We even extended our stay.

First, Balladins is a decent hotel chain with usually good restaurants attached. It should be clean and quiet. There are Balladins all over France. We haven't stayed in one but have eaten in the restaurants when traveling.

That said, you should be able to find reasonably prices accomodation closer to the center of Paris. Whatever you save by staying out at Rosny-sur-Bois, you will spend in transportation costs. You have to take RER E4 into town or transfer to RER A4 into town. Any way you look at it, you are out in Zone 3 and that costs more.

A couple suggestions: (1) type "budget Paris hotels" into the VT Search Window and scroll the next window down to Keyword Search. You should get quite a few entries.

(2) Type Paris into the VT Search Window and go to the VT Paris Travel Pages. Under Tips, check Hotels and Accomodations for budget hotels.

(3) Type Guyon into the VT Search Window. This takes you to VT member Guyon's Home Page. Click on his Paris Travel Page. He lists some very inexpensive central hotels and I would trust his advice.

(4) Another site is http://www.france.com and they have two search engines. There is a Paris Hotels search window and you should choose the Latin Quarter to be right in the heart of Paris. They are listed by price and there are photos and reviews to help you. We book Hotel de la Sorbonne through them when we go and have never had a problem.

(5) http://www.france.com also has a Hostel search feature. On the left of their Home Page is a long blue banner and you should look for the word Hostels and click on it. There are youth hostels but there are also very inexpensive hotels . . . with photos and reviews.

When you find a hotel that interests you, check it on http://www.tripadvisor.com where there are reviews of almost every hotel in the world. At least it appears that way. 8^)

Enjoy your trip.

I just stayed at the Hotel Concord Lafayette for $95US. I booked it on Hotwire.

It was very centrally located in the city.

Try www.paris35.com and some of the apartment rental sites if you will be there more than a few nights- www.centreparis.com, www.vrbo.com and www.homeaway.com
I have rented through these without any problems
