| Madrid | Layover in Madrid Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 05:25 PM UTC
I am traveling from NYC to Rome on Iberia. I, unfortunately, have a hour and a half layover in Madrid. Can anyone tell me about the Layover and plane switching routine in Madrid? I know sometimes you must get your bag and recheck it...is this the case?
will i have to go through customs again? Please help. |

As mentioned you really should check with Iberia. From my experience, if you booked the trip all flights together, your luggage should be checked through. Unlike LAX, where even connecting flights need to go through customs at the Int'l terminal. I have found the US Iberia contact very helpful. Try Navigation assistance

First: Which company are you flying Madrid-Rome?; second, I presume you have to go through custom with your cases and then not check again but dropp your lugagge off again anyway

If you are on-line with Iberia, your luggage will be through-checked to Rome, so no need to pick up your luggage. You will pass through customs (your luggage) in Rome. The customs officers can see from the color of the label if the passenger has travelled within the EU (customs-free) or not (white or green label).
You will have to pass through immigration though (passport control) in Madrid, as you, as a person, will be entering the Schengen area in Madrid. An hour and a half is just enough normally in Madrid with Iberia.

We flew from JFK to Barlin with layover in Madrid on Iberia.
Our bags went straight to Berlin. We went through quick passport control in Madrid before catching our connecting flight. We picked up our bags in BErlin, and there was no more passport control.
