| Rome | How much time to catch a connecting flight? Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 04:51 PM UTC
I tried to book a direct flight on Myair.com from Venice to Palermo, but I wasn't able to get the transaction processed. I'm guessing this is because I'm trying to use a U.S. credit card. The only options I've been able to find using a U.S. credit card would need to change planes in Rome. The flight I'm looking at arrives at Fiumicino (FCO) at 12:20 and leaves at 1:15. Luggage would be checked through to Palermo. Is this enough time? I'd arrive at terminal A, but it doesn't mention where I'd depart from. Also, does anyone happen to know a travel agent who'd take a U.S. credit card for a non-stop flight? I've checked travelocity and orbitz, but think I might have better luck with an actual person.
Thank you! |

I don't think the airline would offer you a through connection which was not feasible.
Fiumicino is not a massive airport, and the terminals are reasonably near each other. If your bags are checked through you should be ok as long as you don't have to change terminals. But it would make sense to check/clarify it with the airline before you book, because I think 55 minutes will cause problems if you do have to change terminals, even if your bags are checked through (am thinking of security/check-in closing).

55 minutes would be pushing it. One delay, or missed communication and you are scr&(*@. I have seen Fiumicino relatively tame, and also a mess with long lines running through one another.

The most common reason why Americans have trouble booking online is because the Credit Card transaction is rejected. Contact your CC company and notify them that there will be an international transaction coming through and let them know approximately how much it will be, then try Myair.com again. It should work after you make the notification.

Thanks Lee! I thought it wouldn't be an issue since I've been booking other things online for this trip, but calling the credit card company enabled the credit card to work on the MyAir website. I was able to book my flight!

If your flights are Alitalia Flight 1472
Departs: 11:15a Marco Polo (VCE) Arrives: 12:20p Fiumicino (FCO) and Alitalia Flight 1781 Departs: 1:15p Fiumicino (FCO) Arrives: 2:25p Punta Raisi (PMO) AND THE FLIGHTS ARE ON TIME, 55 minutes are enough as you'll be in transit at Terminal A only, no much walk to do. In the past I did it within 55 minutes with a connection to Buenos Aires at terminal C arriving at Terminal A, of course I had to run a little bit as I did not have my boarding pass yet for BsAs (I got it at Terminal C only... long story, Xmas holidays... luggage came to BsAs only the following day..), but you've have no passport and/or other controls, nothing and you'll have already your boarding pass. if you and/or your luggage will lose the connection flight, there is an other one after in less then 2 hours, Alitalia Flight 1769 Departs: 3:10p Fiumicino (FCO) Arrives: 4:20p Punta Raisi (PMO) Enjoy your holiday, Palermo (and Sicily) is beatiful

I'll keep windjet in mind the next time I fly in Italy. However, I was able to successfully book the non-stop ticket with Lee's advice.
