I'm going to Barcelona end of May, and think of where to stay there better. I need to spend 1 night, and wished to spend some time at the beach and to see the city as well. So, I think of staying in Barcelona city or somewhere near close to the beach. Please, advice, what whould be better option for the hotel to stay then:
1) city location
2) beach area in the direction of the airport
3) beach area in the direction of if on the way to France?

Which side beaches are better?

If staying near the beach then I need good transport connection to the city. Where it is better?

OK, let's see... you have only I night.... so I would stay IN the city (so Barceloneta as it's a nicer neighborhood that the rest of the seafront (new developments, characterless IMHO)

Beach area in the direction of the airport? If you mean between Barcelona and BCN aiport, there are no beaches (Montjuic mountain and some industrial areas). The nearest beach to the airport will be Casteldefels, more on the South.... but I really don't see the point of staying there if you want to do some sightseeing as well (the same for any beach town on the way to France)

I'd stay in Barcelona, in or near the Nova Icaria area. The beach there is pretty decent and you can spend half the day sightseeing and half at the beach. One day is not much to fit in both. The airport is well-communicated via bus and train to the city, so it doesn't matter where you stay in town for that.

Thanks for your advices so much! I think I will be staying in the city, because it is really so few time and sightseeing is more important.
